Loanable Kits

National Great Rivers has several classroom kits available for educators to check out.

  • Enviroscape - The Enviroscape is an interactive watershed model that allows teachers and their students to explore surface runoff issues. The model helps students to explore non-point source pollution by demonstrating how stormwater carries pollutants throughout the watershed.

  • IDNR Resource Trunks - The kits provided by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources provide Illinois-specific units on 14 topics. National Great Rivers has these kits available for check out at no charge for a period of two weeks. The lessons are correlated to the Next Generation Science Standards, Common Core Standards and Illinois Learning and Development Standards.

  • CINet in the Classroom - The focus of our CINet kits is soil and water testing to help students learn about Critical Zone science, which encompasses the interface between water, soil and the atmosphere. Materials include LaMotte Water Quality Testing kits, soil chemistry kits and curriculum guides.

Workshops

National Great Rivers is an accredited provider of professional development for Illinois educators, we have numerous opportunities available through our Swarovski Foundation Waterschool USA program and our Project WET program.

NGRREC in the Classroom

An NGRREC in the classroom program is when one of our environmental educators brings hands-on materials and interactive lessons to your classroom. Activities cover topics such as water quality, watershed concepts, Mississippi River ecological communities, invasive species, and global water resources.

Program requests must be made at least two weeks in advance. Complete a Program Request, and our staff will be in contact to review and finalize program details.
